Relyens, a story that tells itself
Relive almost 100 years of commitment
A unique story of how a French mutual devoting to hospitals became a company with a European mission, specialising in healthcare and local authorities.
On 2 January 2023 the Sham and Sofaxis brands became Relyens. This move to the single Relyens brand represents a new stage of maturity for our Group, as part of the ImpACT2025 project.
Choosing this model allows us to take our transformation a step further by becoming even more involved with our stakeholders, while capitalising on a supportive and committed collaboration. It was important for us to be fully involved, to accept the requirements imposed on Mission-Driven Companies and to implement a system that would enable us to transform our purpose into concrete, verifiable actions through a renewed governance model (Mission Committee) and impartial double checking (Independent Third Party Organisation – ITPO).
In 2018, our employees, directors, partners, customers and members celebrated the company’s 90th anniversary. The following year the Sham Group became Relyens. The 1,000 employee milestone was passed, paving the way for Risk Management.
In 2014, we began our expansion in Europe with the first Relyens site in Spain. The European adventure continued until 2017 with the establishment of the Group in Italy and Germany.
Sham completed its merger with Sofaxis, announcing its acquisition and becoming the Sham Group. By combining the knowledge of over 700 employees, this single new entity aims to position itself as a leading multi-specialist player in insurance, risk management and social protection, serving health and local ecosystems.
Sofaxis’ objective was to position itself in a relatively unexplored sector of the insurance world – statutory risk and civil servant protection. The broker rapidly established a leading position in France and expanded its insurance offerings, providing advisory and training solutions for local authorities.
20 organisations join forces to create the 1st mutual insurance company dedicated to hospital staff: Sham (Société Hospitalière d’Assurances Mutuelles) was born! Operations officially commenced on 1st January 1928. Its role was to provide “insurance covering work-related accidents exclusively for the personnel of secular and religious hospitals”.
